About the Choir
The 2014/15 season was dominated by the choir’s success at two major choral festivals; first at the Navan Choral Festival where it retained the male voice choir cup and then at the Eskdale Festival of the Arts in Whitby, Yorkshire, where it came first in the Sacred Music section.
While the year was quieter than previous, the choir had ample opportunities to sing at a range of different engagements and venues including concerts, church services, a school and even a wedding!
Among a number of highlights during the year was being the first choir to sing on the Great Staircase in the Titanic Building and singing at the dedication of a new monument at the former US military cemetery at Lisnabreeny, Castlereagh.
The season finished with another "first" when the choir surprised shoppers at Bloomfield shopping mall, Bangor when it recorded a "flashmob" for a BBC2 Ulster-Scots programme.
Our last Musical Director, Robert Wilson MBE was conductor for over 46 years 1968 to 2015. This is an achievment unmatched by any other choir in the UK!
A remarkable period, which reinforced Donaghadee’s standing as the premier male voice choir in Ireland and raised its profile well beyond these shores.
